Memorial services for Rodolfo Hernandez-Torres, 79, of Portales will be held at 2:00 PM, Sat., Mar. 5, 2022 Trinity Church with Pastor Armando Salcedo officiating. Pallbearers will be Jr. Ramirez, Aaron Hernandez, A. B. Coronado, Jonathan Coronado, Brandon Blidi and Alex Garcia.
Rodolfo Hernandez-Torres was born Oct. 11, 1942 in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico to the home of Hortencia (Torres) and Pedro Hernandez, and died Mar. 1, 2022 in Albuquerque, NM. Mr. Hernandez-Torres came to the south valley of Texas in July of 1965 for his sister's wedding, and remained here from that time on. He worked as a migrant farm worker for many years, until moving to Portales in 1990. Since living in Portales, he earned his living making and selling tamales. He continued selling them until 2014 when he was 72 years old.
Rodolfo enjoyed playing his guitar and singing Christian music. He attended a number of different churches, and even traveled to preach and sing at various churches throughout the area. Before coming to the United States, he was a pitcher on a minor league baseball team in Mexico. All of his life he loved to watch baseball games as well as boxing matches.
He is survived by four sons, Rodolfo Hernandez, Jr. of Clovis, NM, Rodolfo Adan Hernandez of Dallas, TX, Rodolfo Hernandez and wife, Eva Cantu of Fort Worth, TX and Arturo Jose Hernandez of NY; two daughters and sons-in-law, Maria and Juan Coronado and Criselda and Luis Garcia of Portales; 18 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leonardo Hernandez of McAllen, TX and Juan Hernandez of Mission, TX; and two sisters, Elida Bravo and Delores Torres both of San Juan, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Oralia Hernandez and Esperanza Rojas.
