Roger Denney, age 73, of
Carrollton, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 30, 2026. Born and raised in Carrollton, Roger was the son of the late E.H. Denney Jr. and Blanche Smith Denney Brasher, and he spent his life rooted in the community he loved.
Roger was a 1971 graduate of Carrollton High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from West Georgia College in 1976. During his college years, he was recognized as All-Conference in discus on the track team, a reflection of both his athletic ability and dedication. His professional life was marked by a strong work ethic and intellectual curiosity. Over the years, he held positions as Chief Control Chemist at E.F. Houghton, Matrix Lab Technician at CBS Records, Quality Control Inspector at Aeroquip, and later served the State of Georgia as an Environmental Specialist with the Environmental Protection Division. After nearly 25 years of faithful service, Roger retired from the State of Georgia, leaving behind a legacy of diligence and integrity.
Faith played an important role throughout Roger's life. He was baptized into the Christian faith at First Christian Church of Carrollton around age 11 and later became a devoted member and deacon at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Music was one of his great joys, and he shared his voice through the church choir, the Carroll County Community Chorus, Sons of Jubal, and Noteworthy. Whether singing or simply spending time with those he loved, Roger found his greatest happiness in fellowship with family and friends.
Roger also had a deep appreciation for history, tradition, and fellowship. He was a proud member of the Georgia Division Reenactors Association, where he enjoyed honoring and preserving history through reenactment and camaraderie. In addition, Roger was a devoted member of Sand Hill Lodge #350 F&AM, valuing the principles of brotherhood, service, and integrity that guided his life. Through these organizations, he formed lasting friendships and found meaningful ways to serve and connect with others.
Roger led an active life and enjoyed activities that kept both his body and his spirit strong. He was dedicated to weightlifting and running, passions that reflected the discipline and determination he carried into every aspect of his life. He also found peace and enjoyment outdoors, especially while camping, and he loved traveling, whether exploring new places or simply enjoying time away with those closest to him. These hobbies brought him balance, adventure, and a deep appreciation for life beyond his daily routine.
Above all else, Roger was a devoted husband and family man. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Tillie Smith Denney of Carrollton; his sister, Diane Hayes; his brother and sister-in-law, Windell and Jennie Denney; his sister-in-law, Kathryn Campbell; and a host of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews who will cherish his memory.
In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his brother, James Denney.
