Roger Eugene Griffin

Roger Eugene Griffin, 78, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Monday, June 19, 2023 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital.
Roger was born in Evansville, Indiana on September 8, 1944 to the late Emory Dwight and Viola Ruth (Mackey) Griffin. He was a graduate of North High School. Roger was the first certified K-9 Arson Investigator in Evansville. He honorably retired from the Evansville Fire Department after 35 years of service. Roger was a mentor to up-and-coming fire investigators and was active in the Retired Police and Firefighters Association. He was a faithful member of New Horizon Fellowship Church of God, touching every ministry in the church. Roger was a proud United States Navy veteran and later joined the reserves. He was a member of the Second Amendment Patriots. Roger was an avid gardener, growing an abundance of vegetables that he loved to share with others. He enjoyed cheering on the Evansville Otters baseball team and was a member of their Booster Club. Roger had a servant's heart, always willing to help others. Above all else, he loved his family dearly and will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren.
Roger is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret (Kinney) Griffin of Evansville, IN; daughter, April Houchins (Matt) of Evansville, IN; brother, Kenneth Griffin of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Ava Grace Market, Asher McCoy Market, Cullen Thomas Houchins, and Mattison Belle Houchins; nephew, Kristoffer Griffin (Jessica); great-nephews, Fisher Lawrence Griffin and Barrett Ray Griffin; and by many cousins.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of Roger's life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at New Horizon Fellowship Church of God, 1518 Washington Ave., Evansville, IN 47714 with Pastor Carl Mann, II officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery where the Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites.
Friends may visit from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, June 23, 2023 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 E. Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711 and again from 9:00 am until service time on Saturday at the church.
