Roger Elwood James, age 79 of Plymouth, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital.
Roger was born on September 12, 1945 to the late Roy James and Ines Pearl (Cline) Hicks in Shelby, Ohio. On July 18, 1964, he married the late Janice Carol Barnett.
He was a retired Crane Operator for Arcelormittal after working 42 years. He was also a Union President Local 3057. He was a Union President for five terms during his union involvement for 40 years. Roger belonged to the Free Masons for more than 30 years.
Roger enjoyed hunting for coon, rabbit, squirrel and deer. Over the years, he won several trophies for coon hunting with his grand championship dogs. He collected guns, knives and vehicles throughout his lifetime. When he was feeling lucky, he would visit casinos. He will truly be missed by family and friends.
Those who will cherish his memories include his children: Scott (Linda) James of Texas, Lena Sizemore of Plymouth, Ohio, Jan (Gary) Bouman of Willard, Ohio, Michelle (Fred) Pfeifer of Shelby, Ohio and Kim (Mike) Combs of Plymouth, Ohio; his special "furry" child, Chole Rae; his grandchildren: Coty, Wyatt, Dillon, Nikki, Winston, Jesse, Katie, Luke, Nathan, Kyle, Tyler, Heather, Summer and Destiny; his fifteen great grandchildren; his siblings: Sandy Leonard of Glendale, Arizona, Ron Hicks of Mansfield, Ohio, Robin Adkins of Mansfield, Ohio, and Renee Hicks of Mansfield, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, Roy James and Ines Pearl Hicks; his stepdad, Chester Hicks; his son, Jesse James; his sisters: June Montgomery, Louise Fromm and Bonnie Gushard; his brother, Doug Hicks; and his three great grandchildren, Baby Richard, Amber Dawn and Khyrhyn.
Friends and family may come to honor Roger's life on Friday, October 11, 2024 from 4pm to 6pm at Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024 starting at 10am at Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory. A burial will be held after the funeral service at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

I have been so blessed to have met Roger a few years back.He was a good caregiver to his wife which showed what a big heart he had.Roger was always a true & sincere person.He will be greatly missed.Rest in peace.
