Roger F. O’Sullivan

Lifelong Cambridge resident, Roger Francis O'Sullivan, Jr., 79, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, surrounded by his family. Roger was born on May 28, 1946, to parents, Roger, Sr. and Helen. Roger attended Cambridge public schools and studied History at Boston State College. After serving in the army, he returned to Cambridge and taught science at various Cambridge schools (occasionally entertaining his students by playing the kazoo). His favorite professional role was as President of the Cambridge Teachers' Union for four terms. He also enjoyed selling real estate before and after retiring from teaching. Roger loved politics and was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention.

Roger is survived by his daughter Jennifer O'Sullivan Salmon, his son-in-law Dick, granddaughters Grace and Charley, Jennifer's mother Rosalind, and many friends and neighbors. Roger loved playing mini golf with and taking his granddaughters for ice cream. He also enjoyed watching football (especially the Patriots), playing golf, going to the gym, reading the newspaper and mystery novels, traveling to the Cape and Ireland, shopping (he was a sharp dresser), and spending time with friends. He was friendly, kind, and easy going -- a "delight" as someone recently making his acquaintance described him.

Roger volunteered at Boston Children's Hospital for 15 years, accumulating nearly 2,000 hours of service. Both inside the hospital and out, he'd greet people with stickers and dad jokes (What do you call an alligator with a vest on? An investigator). He was active in the Disabled American Veterans organization.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for visiting hours in St. Peter's Church, 100 Concord Ave, Cambridge, on Monday morning, December 29th, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
