Roger C. Walter Tawas, Michigan
Our beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2024, age 80, at MyMichigan Tawas Hospital. The son of Carl "Kelly" and Bernadine "Esther" Walter, he was born in Bay City on October 21st, 1943. Roger attended St Stanislaus Grade School and went on to attend Bay City Central High School. He also attended 4 years of trade school and went on to be a Tool and Die Maker at General Motors for 37 years until he retired in 2006. After retirement, he enjoyed working at the church and volunteering at the radio station WKJC for the "Sunday Night Polka Show". He was a member of Knights of Columbus in Tawas and enjoyed fishing, bowling, listening to music and spending time with his granddaughter.
Roger is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Dianne (Winkel) Walter, who he married in Bay City on September 16th, 1967. He is also survived by his son and daughter in law Todd and Bridget Walter, granddaughter Sophie Walter, brother Eugene Walter, sister Terrie (Walter) Ruegsegger, and several other nieces and nephews. Roger was predeceased by his parents, Carl "Kelly" and Bernadine "Esther" Walter, his daughter Jamie Walter and his brother in law Howard Ruegsegger.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 26th at 11:00 am at St James Catholic Church, 202 E Sherman St, Whittemore, MI 48770. Friends and family may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to their local American Cancer Society. A special thank you to the staff on the CCU and Med Surg units at MyMichigan Tawas Hospital along with Compassus Hospice for the wonderful care given to Roger.
