Rogers (Skip) Worth McGrady, of Cypress, Harris County, Texas was born May 1, 1963 to Robert Anthony Jones McGrady and Betty Dale (Rudd) McGrady in West Chester, Chester County, Pennsylvania. He died February 14, 2026 in Cypress, Harris County, Texas, following a courageous four-year battle with uveal (ocular) melanoma, a very rare and aggressive cancer.
Skip is survived by his wife of 42 years, Susan Marie (Wims) McGrady, their children, Kristen Marie McGrady of
Cypress, Texas, and Jeremy Daniel McGrady of Houston, Texas, his parents, Robert and Betty McGrady of Greensboro, North Carolina, his brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Vicky (McDonald) McGrady, niece, Morgan, and nephews, Sean and Cameron, of Fredrick, Maryland; niece Dr. Erika Crutcher and husband, Damon Crutcher, and great nephews William and Nicholas of Colorado; and his brother, Robert McGrady II of
Greensboro, NC. He is also survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, David Wayne Wims of Mount Vernon, Texas; John Mark and Paula (Rader) Wims of Idalou, Texas; Richard Timothy and Teresia (Boyd) Wims of Mount Vernon, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and great-great nieces.
Skip grew up in Houston, Texas and graduated from Sharpstown High School in 1981. He attended the University of Houston and Sam Houston State University before joining the Houston Police Department in 1984. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1995 and retired in 2018 after 34 years of service. During this time, he was assigned to the Southwest and Westside Divisions, both as a patrol officer and sergeant in various positions, along with the obligatory rotation in the Jail Division. His final assignment was as the Burglary and Theft Division Westside Squad sergeant.
Skip married Susan on January 14, 1984, in Richmond, Texas. They lived in Stafford, Texas for over 30 years raising their family, and after his retirement, they moved to the Cypress area. They enjoyed traveling across the country experiencing many beautiful places and adventures. Skip enjoyed scuba diving in his younger years, snow skiing in Colorado and New Mexico, bird hunting, fishing and bike riding, including over 20 years of the MS150 ride from Houston to Austin.
Skip was a loving husband, wonderful father, uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed by the many people his life touched.
In lieu of flowers, memorials and contributions may be made to the Eye on Grace Foundation (eyeongracefoundation.org) which provides travel grants to other uveal/ocular melanoma patients, many of whom must travel long distances for treatment, or A Cure in Sight (acureinsight.org) which provides research grants and other patient support related to this cancer.
