Roland Wade Cooper, born February 4, 1949, 76 years old, of San Antonio, Texas, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 11, 2025. He was born and raised in San Antonio where he lived his whole life. Roland enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. Roland was a carpenter by trade and able to build or repair just about anything.
Roland married Maria in 1986 on Valentine's Day in San Antonio. He had a passionate talent for painting scenery and seascapes; he spent countless hours dedicated to his hobby. He often gave away and donated his paintings to family, friends and medical professionals. He was also a very skilled billiards player; he greatly enjoyed the social aspects offered by the sport. He made lifelong friendships with many fellow players; he met one of his dearest and closest friend Gino and they spent many hours perfecting their game.
In 2010, Roland underwent a successful liver transplant. Roland was a founding member of the liver disease and transplant support group formed in November of 2013. He became very involved with members of the liver transplant support group, encouraging those waiting on a liver to never give up hope. This group adored Roland and Maria; they formed a strong bond as well; they became as close as brothers and sisters.
He enjoyed talking with everyone and loved telling jokes. He would laugh right along with the person he was joking with or about and was quick to laugh at himself. He was a dedicated Spurs fanatic! More than anything, he cherished his beautiful wife, Maria; because of the love they shared together, she fought with everything she had to make sure he was healthy and received the best care possible. Maria cared for Roland daily, as she was an angel sent from above and always a warrior at his side.
He was loved and cherished by his family and friends and will be truly missed. Roland is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Aminta Cooper, his two brothers Randall and Dale. Roland is survived by his beautiful, loving wife Maria R. Cooper of 39 years, daughters Sara Mitchell and her husband Guy, and Marin Abbruscato, stepson David Riojas, & Beatrice Alvarez; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is survived by siblings Julia Cooper Ryan and her husband Michael Bass, Dave Cooper and his wife Anita, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, Maria Cooper requests that donations be made to a memorial fund in Roland's name that would assist families in need who are going through the liver transplant process. Donations will be collected by Dr Kalter at visitation or can be mailed to 13807 Jess Gardens, San Antonio, 78232. Any checks should be made out to Maria Cooper.
