Roland Louis Luze, 76, of Huntersville, NC died July 31, 2024 at Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center. He was born on December 20, 1947 in Hendricks, MN to the late Joseph and Carmen (Ames) Luze.
Roland graduated from Elkton High School in 1966. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Dakota State University in 1970. Following graduation, he served his country with the US Army with a tour of duty in Vietnam.
He was united in marriage to Paula Beyer on September 15, 1973 in Elkton, SD. On his birthday in December 1977, his daughter, Stacy Lynn Luze, was born.
Roland was employed by the South Dakota Department of Labor for 29 years at the Job Service offices in both Sioux Falls and Madison, SD. Upon retirement, he filled his days working various part time jobs including his two favorites: combining with Paul and Dennis Lebrun and driving school bus for the Chester Area School. He enjoyed attending school sport events at Chester and SDSU, going to farm auctions, and his daily walks by his acreage. He was a retired volunteer of the Wentworth Fire Department.
He was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church, Huntersville, NC, and the Chester American Legion.
Roland and Paula moved to NC in 2019 after the birth of their granddaughter Lena Lenore.
Survivors include his wife, Paula Luze; daughter, Stacy Luze of Huntersville, NC and her daughter, Lena; and siblings, Michael (Delores) Luze, Margaret Wickherst, Carmen Dannenbring, Peter Luze, Jean (Kevin) Revaul and Angeline (Leon) Spartz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Vincent Luze and sister Lisa Luze.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 10:30 am at St. Peter Catholic Church in Colman, SD with Interment at St. Mary Cemetery, Elkton, SD with military rites.
James Funeral Home of Huntersville is serving the family.
