RICHLAND HILLS - Roland Eugene Rhine went to be with his savior on Dec. 30, 2022, in Richland Hills.
Celebration of Life: 2:30 p.m. Monday Jan. 9, 2023, in Greenwood Chapel.
Visitation: 1:30 p.m. Monday prior to the service.
Roland Eugene Rhine was born May 26, 1940, in
Greenwood, Texas to Luther and Eunice Miller Rhine.
He is survived by his wife, Eddielou; daughters, Rhonda Schombert and husband, Darren, Kim Rhine, Stacey Kuykendall and husband, Gary; grandchildren, Lacy Tallent, Morgan Waldrep, Taylor Schombert, Mallory Kuykendall and Kylee Schombert; great-grandchildren, Paisley Waldrep, Sutton Waldrep, Ellie Tallant and Walker Tallant; sister, Melba Milligan; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Roland was the baby of his family and the only boy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Eunice Rhine; and his sister, Geneva Dewberry.
Roland started working as a teenager at Williams and Dickie and finished school at Crowley High School, and was a star basketball player.
Roland met his loving wife Eddielou at the Lone Star Drive Inn in 1958 and for him it was love at first site, he even fought with his best friend Laroy over her, obviously Roland won. He and Eddielou married April 7, 1958 and they were married for almost 65 years.
Roland went on to work for Redball Freight first in the offices and then he trained to be a short route truck driver, when Redball went under he was able to pivot and started working in construction becoming a Foreman for ACD construction. He would return to trucking when Consolidated Freightways offered him the opportunity to bridge his years and have a pension for his retirement, he retired after suffering a severe injury to his hand. He was a Teamster and worked with the union to support his other union members, as well as being a Lifetime member of the Shriners, Masonsand Knights Templar.
Roland was an incredible dad, he was the definition of a girl dad before the term was even invented, there was nothing he would not do for his daughters, sons-in-love, grandchildren or great-grandchildren.
Roland was a great friend and would help others with fixing their car and handyman work around the house.
He was quite good and competitive at cards and dominoes which he enjoyed playing with his friends.
Roland enjoyed being out in nature from gardening to being up in the mountains fishing and hunting, he especially enjoyed the times he spent with his family in New Mexico at Evelyn and Richards place his sister and brother-in-love.
Roland enjoyed listening to the Gaithers and bluegrass music, he was a pretty good singer himself and he and Eddielou loved going to Saturday night gospel singings.
Roland liked doing wood work making book shelves and bird houses during his retirement.
He was also a good cook, he made the best black eyed peas which he would grow and can himself usually as well as a master at the grill.
Roland's favorite scripture was Psalms 91, those who live in the shadow of the almighty will have rest, the Lord is my refuge and my strength and in him will I trust, he will rescue you from every trap, he will cover you with the feathers of his wings, he is faithful and his promises are your armor and protection.
