Obituary published on Legacy.com by Martin-Dugger Funeral Home - Elk City on Apr. 23, 2023.
Ron Nagle's story is one about family. He was born in Elk City in 1943, the same year as his parents Raymond Nagle and Odella Morey Nagle purchased a farm on the sandy hills northwest of Elk City. As a man of strong faith, we are confident he walked through the gates of Heaven on April 21st, 2023 at the age of 79. He was a 4th generation Elk Citian. In 1902, two of his great grandfathers, Layfette Fannon and Nicholas Nagle, moved to the Elk City area to purchase farmland. Later his grandparents and parents participated in the community and attended the area schools of Long Hope, Sandridge, Bella Vista, and eventually Elk City and Merritt.
As a child, Ron attended Merritt Public Schools where his dad was his bus driver making him the "first one on and the last one off." He was active in basketball, baseball, and FFA before he graduated in 1961. He rose early each day to do the many chores of a cattle and cotton farm before school.
His younger years were filled with church activities at the Nazarene church, farm life, school, and the joy of living next to his grandparents' farm. His beloved grandmother, Hannah, was a correspondent for the Elk City Daily News for many years, while his grandfather, Hugo, farmed the quarter just adjacent to his parents' farm.
Ron began his first job at Safeway at the age of 16 where Glenn Malone, his first boss, helped mold him into the successful businessman he later became. He eventually became a manager and lived in several towns across Oklahoma before returning to Elk City in 1977 to manage Wag a Bag convenience store. Later, he purchased his own convenience store, Nagle's Snappy Sak where he worked until retirement.
In 1962, he met and married the love of his life, Joyce Cook of Elk City. They were blessed with 60 wonderful years together.
Ron was a member of the Antioch Christian Church where he was an elder and taught a Sunday school class. Through the years he was active in the Merritt alumni association, the president of the Elk City Roundup Club, chairman of the Old Town Museum western celebration, and a museum board member where he helped with the annual chili cook off and flea market. He was also recently inducted into the Western Oklahoma Historical Society hall of fame.
Ron was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching OU, attended many Elk City and Merritt games, but most importantly he loved to watch his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's events, where he "sometimes" disagreed with the officials. He was obsessed with having a perfectly manicured lawn. He got to experience many new places and people while traveling with Kaleo Tours. He delighted in riding his motorcycle and having daily coffee with his friends, where they supposedly solved many of the world's problems. These buddies have met for years, starting at Nagle's. He also spent many enjoyable afternoons doing jigsaw puzzles with his wife and building elaborate LEGO sets.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at the First Baptist Church,

Ron is preceded in death by his parents and a daughter-in-law, Wendy. He is survived by his wife Joyce of the home; a sister Betty Raye Young and husband Bill of Fontana, California, a brother Martin Nagle and wife Lalani of

Eleven great-grandchildren: Baylor, Landon, Easton, Blakelee, Harper, Preston, Tucker, Greyson, Abel, Eden, and Josie.
One of Ron's greatest qualities was he was a people person who never met a stranger and greeted everyone with a smile.
Throughout the past 79 years Ron was blessed to be surrounded by the love, laughter, and wisdom of not only his own biological family but the family he found in the citizens of Elk City and his church who have been an integral part of his life.
