Rona Wilson Obituary

Wilson, Rona Holly
ALBANY - Rona Holly Wilson, 83, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2026, in Albany, N.Y., embraced by loving friends.
Born in New York City, Rona was the only child of Marion Mintz Wilson and Herbert Paul Wilson, who predeceased her. From an early age, her curiosity and intellect were unmistakable, propelling her toward a life of study, service and deep human connection.
Rona was a brilliant scholar and a passionate student of the world. She earned two Master's degrees, and worked toward a Ph.D. in Psychology, pursuing her education at esteemed institutions, including Hunter College and Syracuse University. She also studied at the School for International Training at The Experiment in International Living, a program devoted to fostering peace through understanding, communication, and cooperation across cultures. This mission was not simply academic for Rona, it was the guiding philosophy of her life.
Her career began in New York City and later led her to Albany, N.Y., where she served for decades in New York State government, including as an analyst in the New York State Department of Health Office of Professional Conduct. She brought intellect, integrity, and humanity to every role she held.
Rona was a pianist, whose music resonated with precision and heart, a writer, with a keen eye for nuance, a gifted historian, who delighted in unveiling overlooked stories, an astrologer, who appreciated the poetry of the cosmos, and an avid traveler, who carried a lifelong love for exploration. Until her later years, she was also a prolific letter writer, a lost art she carried with joyful devotion.
Above all, Rona was a loyal, humble, and steadfast friend. She believed in reaching out even when others did not, remembering birthdays with unfailing fidelity. While not shy to voice her opinions, she could soften the edge using humor tinged with dry wit, and stories rich with
surprising historical insight. Her warmth and generosity created a chosen family from her circle of dear friends, a testament to the depth of her heart.
She is survived by a small family of cousins, and a deep circle of friends who became family, through shared laughter, shared journeys, and shared life.
She will be especially missed by her dearest companions in her later years, Anne Saile, Diane Acosta and Gail vonHahmann
A private service will be held. In lieu of flowers, those who loved Rona are invited to honor her memory in a way she cherished, write a letter to someone you care, about or call someone just to see how they are, a daily practice she lived by, and a gift she gave to the world.

I worked at the Terrace in Troy while Rona lived there and Rona was one of favorite women to sit and talk with. She was truly unique.
