In Loving Memory of Ronald J. Bushey
With profound sorrow and deep love, we announce the passing of Ronald J. Bushey, who departed this life on July 2, 2025, at the age of 92. He passed peacefully at the McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester, surrounded by those he cherished most.
Born on September 26, 1932, in Sheldon Springs, Vermont, Ronald was the devoted son of the late Kenneth and Beatrice (Bachand) Bushey. He graduated from Highgate High School in 1950, beginning a life rooted in quiet strength, compassion, and unwavering generosity.
At age 17, Ronald joined the military with the Air National Guard, building a distinguished career that spanned 43 years. His service was marked by loyalty, humility, and a deep sense of duty to both his country and community.
On May 8, 1954, Ronald married the love of his life, Agnes Whittle, at St. Francis Xavier Church in Winooski. Their bond, marked by deep faith and shared devotion, spanned 70 beautiful years until Agnes's passing on December 21, 2024.
Ronald was a man whose actions spoke louder than words. His strength was steady, his presence reassuring, and his generosity limitless. Whether offering a helping hand, gentle encouragement, or a listening ear, he gave wholly and humbly. He was a lifelong active Catholic parishioner whose faith infused every aspect of his life.
He is survived by his loving children: Bruce and Kim Bushey, James and Lona Bushey, Daniel Bushey, all of Milton, and daughter Laurie Bushey Emerson of South Burlington. Ronald was a proud grandfather to Ryan, Jason, Rachel, Joel, Benjamin, and Corey; and a cherished great-grandfather to Marlie, Evelyn, and Dominic.
Ronald also leaves behind his beloved siblings and their families: Rita and Laurel Spears of Swanton, Mark and Mary Bushey of Swanton, Debbie and Clarence Miller of Highgate, and Polly and Douglas Vincelette of Monkton.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Agnes; his parents, Kenneth and Beatrice; and his siblings and their spouses: Janet and Arthur Donna, Wayne and Aleta Bushey, and Blair and Iona Bushey.
Ronald enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, camping, picnics, and exploring nature and the outdoors. He was so proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with them whether it was going on school field trips, coaching team sports with both children and grandchildren.
Though we mourn his loss, we celebrate the remarkable life he lived. Ronald's quiet strength, generous heart, and enduring love will always remain in our hearts and memory.
A time for visitation will be held at LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St., Winooski on Monday, July 7, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 8 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church in Winooski, where Ronald and Agnes began their life together. Burial will follow in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Ronald's memory to St. Francis Xavier Church, 3 St. Peter St., Winooski; a place that meant so much to him.
