Mr. Ronald Carrol Chambers, 81, of Lake City, Florida passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Thursday, September 5, 2024 with his three daughters by his side. He was born on November 20, 1942 to the late James Carroll and Hilda Young Chambers in Alachua, Florida. Ron was a 1961 graduate of Santa Fe High School. He loved the dirt and as founder and owner of Chambers Contracting Company was a site development contractor for over 50 years, He took great pride in building roads, housing developments, commercial buildings, schools, churches and many other structures and sites. He viewed his profession as building things that benefit people and not just building a physical product. Ron was past Lions Club president, past deacon First Baptist Church Alachua, a Mason, and a Shriner and a member of Southside Baptist Church in Lake City. Even in illness, he faithfully watched 5 or 6 Christian church services each Sunday. His two favorite hobbies were fishing and watching Fox News.
His favorite part of life was being a Poppa to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Even with blended families, he loved and treated everyone the same. Poppa loved hosting beach vacations, Halloween trick or treats in the wagon, having grandchildren work days that were overpaid and unsafe and camp outs on the vacant lot. He loved saying the blessing before meals, making it appropriate to whatever the occasion and reminding us all of how fortunate we are. Poppa was the family baker and his many flavored pound cakes were the most anticipated feature of every family gathering including birthdays and weddings.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years Linda Arnold Chambers, his brother Jerry Chambers and his parents. He is survived by his daughters Missy Lee (Mike), Ronda Chambers, Teresa Barber (Tommy) and step-daughters Lauri Shubert (Dennis), and Abby Freibert (David), stepson Dan Page (Julie), grandchildren, Jessica Levings (Chris), Chelsea Collins (Collin), Zachary Shubert, Meghan Dasher (Chris), Austin Barber (Kelsey), Madison Page, Andrew Freibert, Aaron Barber (Rachael), Harrison Shubert, and Hannah Freibert; nine great-grandchildren with three more on the way, his sister Sandra Steele (Sidney) and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Poppa and his positive attitude will be dearly missed by all that knew him. His generosity, love for his family and his unwavering faith, will be remembered by the many people whose lives he touched during a life well lived. He is probably building a better road to Heaven now so it will be easier for others to arrive. As it says in Matthew 25:21, "well done good and faithful servant."
Memorial services will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Southside Baptist Church in Lake City with Pastor Richard Rodriquez officiating. A reception will immediately follow at the fellowship hall of the church. Private family interment services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Southside Baptist Church, 388 SE Baya Drive Lake City, FL 32025.
