Chief Ronald W. Cline (USN, Ret.), born on December 17, 1935, to Purvey and Effie Cline, passed away on May 15, 2024. He was 88 years old.
At age 17, Ronald enlisted in the US Navy, embarking on a 30-year career that he was immensely proud of. Upon retirement, in 1985, he was a decorated Chief Hull Maintenance Technician (HTC) and Vietnam War Veteran. After his distinguished service, he continued to contribute to his community by working as an HVAC technician and plumber in the Virginia Beach School system until his retirement.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Purvey and Effie Cline; his beloved wife, Shirley Cline; his grandchildren, Caleb Matthew and Anaka Maheras; his brothers, Ervin H. Cline, Robert Lee Cline, Reverend P.A. Cline, Jr., and Earl Edison Cline; and his sisters, Louise Styles, Josephine Cline, Ocie Mae Cline, and Rosa Wilson.
He is survived by his devoted daughter, Regina Dawn (Ryan Swearingen) of Virginia Beach, and his cherished grandchildren, Cody Michael, Kailea Cheyenne, Tyler Michael, Gage Thomas, and Liliana Tenley. He is also survived by his stepchildren, William, Rebecca (Fred), Robert, and Barry, along with his grandchildren, Jon and Christian. Ronald leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will remember his kind heart.
Ronald never met a stranger; his infectious laugh, giving heart, and love for making others happy were legendary. He found great joy in spoiling his grandchildren and was known for his unwavering devotion to his daughter and all his grandkids. Ronald's big personality left an indelible mark on the lives he touched. There will never be another man like him.
The family will greet friends from 10am to 10:45am on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Princess Anne Chapel. Following this visitation, a service of remembrance will be held in the adjacent cemetery, Colonial Grove Memorial Park, beginning at 11am.

FTGC Mumpower. Precom Spruance until '79. A couple of things I learned from Ron was the pronunciation 0f the morning meal" Breafuss" and strangely enough my last name"Mumfer", I had no idea. We stood a lot of import duty together and somehow quite often we would come across a 5 pound box of shrimp, that I believe we managed to consume with great ease. In precom he often drove the bus and acquired the nickname "Bus key", Don't think it lasted though. He was an awesome shipmate and friend. Was very lucky to know him.

God Speed HTC Cline you were a great Teacher, Mentor and a Man larger than life in the eyes of a 17 year old that I looked up to. I served under Chief Cline in R-Div from 1974 Pre-com to 1978. Salute! And Thank you for your service!
