Ronald Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Metropolitan Funeral Service - Berkley Chapel from Feb. 3 to Feb. 17, 2026.
Ronald Julian Johnson was born on April 12, 1941, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late William H. Johnson, Sr., and Lucille Boone Johnson. The youngest of six boys and two girls, Ronald grew up in a loving and lively household. At a young age, he joined New Calvary Baptist Church and became a Boy Scout at First Baptist Church on Bute Street, beginning a journey rooted in community and service.

Ronald was educated in Norfolk Public Schools and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, where he was known as an avid student with an enduring thirst for knowledge.

His passion for music emerged early. At just fifteen, he joined the well-known group The Quarter Notes, mastering both the trumpet and the bass guitar. His talent and leadership blossomed as he later led the Sebastian and the House Rockers Band. Ronald continued to build an impressive musical career with The Gentlemen, which later evolved into The Gentlemen and Their Ladies Show and Dance Band. His work took him around the world, sharing his gifts with audiences far and wide. In retirement, Ronald enjoyed the camaraderie and community service of The Whats social club.

Ronald's career was briefly interrupted when he was called to serve his country in the United States Army. He was stationed in several locations, including Vietnam, and carried the honor of that service throughout his life. Upon returning home, he embraced entrepreneurship as the proud owner of Jay Jay's Carwash, where he built lasting relationships within his community.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Ronald leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Sandra; his son, Ronald Julian; two bonus sons, Lewis (Linda) and Roosevelt; his brother Lorenzo and sister Barbara Anne; grandchildren Julianna, Rey, and Kyle; sisters-in-law Evelyn and Michelle; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
