Ronald A. Mockenhaupt

Age 77, of Penn Hills (formerly Oakmont), on September 6, 2025. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Linda Mockenhaupt; brother of Karen (Bob) Richey, Christal Mockenhaupt (Tony Edmonds) and Robin Mockenhaupt (Ralph Popp); stepfather of Shawn (Lori) Cleveland and Chatara (Daniel) Meyer; grandfather of Sheyenne Turk, London Bly, Shaman Cleveland and Maryn Meyer; great-grandfather of Fawkes Bly; uncle of Kara Shafer, Kristen Popp, Kieran Edmonds; great uncle of Anna Black; also survived and loved by other family and friends.

Ron's abiding interest was in science, especially astronomy and engineering. When young, he loved to visit Buhl Planetarium on the North Side and even ground the lens for his own large telescope. This scientific interest infused many of his employment choices - member of a PENNDOT road surveying crew, optician trainee, CAD operator and draftsman, and he often pointed out the municipal projects in the area on which he had worked. Ron was born and raised in Pittsburgh, graduated from Fox Chapel High School in 1966 and attended classes at Point Park College, now known as Point Park University. He also lived for a few years in the Austin area where he liked to explore the Texas Hill country west of the city. Ron was an avid sports fan and loved watching the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Steelers. He and Linda treasured vacation moments in their very special place, Canaan Valley, WV, and they delighted in the relationships with their grandchildren. Late in life, Ron became a Cat Parent, and Kibbles and Bits received much love and affection. Those who knew Ron knew him to be a thoughtful, caring, kind man with a twinkle of quiet humor in his eyes and a man of faith. At Concordia Lutheran Ministries, the nursing home in Monroeville where Ron resided his final year, he was lovingly referred to as "the gentle giant."

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, September 14, 2025 from 4-7 PM at English Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 378 Maryland Ave., Oakmont, PA 15139. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 15, 2025 at 10 AM at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Mt. Royal Cemetery in Glenshaw, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Ron's name to: Concordia Monroeville, Attn: Activity Department, 4363 Northern Pike, Monroeville PA 15146–2807, or to the charity or organization of your choice.
