STEWARTSTOWN – Ronald D. Phinney, 90, of W. Stewartstown, passed away on Monday evening, Nov. 17, 2025, at the Coös County Nursing Hospital where he had been a resident since May and after several months of declining health.

He was born in Old Town, Maine, on June 8, 1935, a son to the late Kenneth and Myra (Leclair) Phinney. He was raised for most of his young life in Limerick, Me. He served his state and nation in the National Guard for a few years in Maine and married his high school sweetheart, Ethel Hubbard.

For many years, Ron and his wife resided in the Limington-Limerick area of Maine. He started his working life as a mechanic, but soon transitioned to the electrical field, eventually becoming a maintenance supervisor for GE and later Sylvania. Ron later obtained his own Master Electrician license and had his own electrical business. He was the town building inspector for the towns of Limerick, Newfields, and Limington, Me., for many years, which he truly enjoyed.

Ron loved to go camping with his family, and he was an active member of the National Campers & Hikers Association for more than 40 years; he and his wife were New England regional directors of the organization. He was an avid reader, and he was also a volunteer for with the Special Olympics for 25 years.

He leaves behind two sons, Bruce (Suzanne) Phinney of Canaan, VT, and Steven (Sherry) Phinney of Melbourne, FL; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Ron is predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Ethel M. Phinney in 2024, a son, David, and two siblings, Bobby and Sheila.

Services will be in Cornish, ME, at the convenience of the family on a later date.
