Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home - Mountain GroveEMCS (Ret.) Ronald “Red” Edward Stubbs, 89, of Lebanon, Missouri, passed away peacefully after a long illness at home in Auburn, Maine, on December 9, 2025, surrounded by family.
Born July 11, 1936, in Mountain Grove, Missouri, to Hershal B. and Ruby (née Ussery) Stubbs, Red grew up in Mountain Grove and graduated from Mountain Grove High School, class of 1954. Following graduation, his life took him to various ports across the United States during his distinguished 21-year career in the United States Navy. He retired in 1975, with the highlight of his service being Chief of the Boat aboard the USS Greenfish.
On December 13, 1958, in Miami, Oklahoma, Red married the love of his life, Myrna Laura Moore. After retiring from the Navy, he and Myrna settled east of Lebanon, Missouri, where they purchased a farm and raised registered Angus and later Brangus cattle. Red also put up hay for himself and neighboring farms, often working the summers alongside his son Brian. He later served as maintenance supervisor at Marathon Electric. Even after retiring from Marathon, Red continued working with an international construction company, rewiring American embassies in South America and Estonia.
A lifelong learner, Red was deeply passionate about American history, especially the settlement of the American West and the history of the Plains Indians. He loved fishing, camping with Myrna, and visiting national parks and historic battlegrounds.
Red is survived by two daughters: Laurie Kathleen Elliott (née Stubbs) and her husband Kip Elliott—whom Red considered a son—of Auburn, Maine; and Jennifer Lynn Stubbs of Port Orange, Florida; three grandchildren: CTR1 (IW) Madison Grace Barberena (née Elliott), currently stationed aboard the USS Portland out of San Diego, California, and her wife CTR1 (SW) Tañija Azile Luree Barberena; Isaac Samuel Elliott of Daytona Beach, Florida; and Kinsey Alexis Stubbs of Port Orange, Florida; and one great-grandson, Kinsey’s son Oliver Reese Covey.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Myrna Laura Stubbs on November 14, 2019; his son Brian Douglas Stubbs on November 29, 2023; and his parents.
A graveside memorial service with full military honors will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Stubbs Cemetery in Mountain Grove, Missouri, where Red and his beloved Myrna will be laid to rest together.
