Ronald C. Segan, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024 at the age of 77, due to complications from Parkinson's Disease.
Ron was born in 1947 in Detroit, Michigan, as the only son to Rudy and Helen Segan. He met Doreen (Bruneel) in 1965 and they were married at St. John Berchmans Catholic Church in 1967. Together they loved to attend to Frank Sinatra concerts, go on spontaneous trips to Frankenmuth and visit family in Ohio and Florida. They were always the first ones on the dance floor at family weddings and knew how to cut a rug. As a longtime car enthusiast and employee of General Motors, Ron also surprised Doreen on more than one occasion by showing up at home unannounced with a revolving assortment of new cars. Ron and Doreen had a loving marriage for 56 years and raised their family in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
Ron was a loving father of Ronald (Amanda) Segan and Stacey (John) Rzeszut. And anyone who spent time with Ron instantly knew how proud he was of his grandchildren Ryan (19) and Connor (16) Rzeszut and Madelyn (4) Segan and Mason Rodriguez (16). He was an enthusiastic supporter of Ryan's lawnmowing business and followed every detail of Connor's baseball games. The birth of his granddaughter, Maddie, in 2020 gave him a new lease on life and her energy and love gave him a boost as his Parkinson's progressed.
Ron was outgoing and welcomed everyone he met and was well regarded for his kind demeanor and generous spirit. His witty humor provided laughs for everyone in the room and his "Ron-isms" will live on in perpetuity. It's a known fact that he had more humorous quips than "Carter had little liver pills."
Ron was the quintessential sports fan, but as a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers, he especially loved baseball. Ron was also a huge Notre Dame football fan and hosted legendary tailgates on ND gamedays in South Bend with a wide-reaching group of friends and relatives. He consistently bragged and reminisced about his son Ron's football days and Stacey's softball days to anyone who would listen.
Ron will be deeply missed by many. His funeral mass will be held Monday, July 29, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew Church, 1400 Inglewood, Rochester, MI 48307. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Ron to the Kirk Gibson Foundation for Parkinson's, 280 N. Old Woodward Ave. Suite 106, Birmingham, MI 48009. The Kirk Gibson Foundation provides programs to help Parkinson's patients maintain their quality of life and also support families with respite care.
