Ronald Roy Singel of Sherwood, age 83, passed away on Oct. 4 at home. He was born June 24, 1940, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Dorothy and John Singel. He attended Bowling Green University where he met his future wife Julianne Reedy. They were married on Sept. 21, 1963, and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. He retired from the Air Force after serving 20 years, last stationed at Little Rock Air Force Base.
He was also a decorated Vietnam veteran where he served as a C-130 navigator. Ron was awarded many medals during his Air Force career including the Distinguished Flying Cross, The Air Force Air Medal (with three oak leaves,) Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Combat Readiness Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnam Service (with star) and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
After retiring from the military, Ron earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and worked in real estate, and later became a business owner until retiring from that, too. Ron was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing and boating with his family on Lake Hamilton. He also enjoyed trips on the Buffalo River and Little Red with his friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Dorothy and John Singel. He is survived by his loving wife, Julianne Reedy Singel; his children John Singel, Cary Jenkins, and Jenny (David ) Miller; ten grandchildren; and his sister, Jean Schramke.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Smith Sherwood Funeral Home(7700 Hwy 107). Funeral service will be held at 9:30 AM on Friday, October 13, 2023 at the funeral home with burial following at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.
