Ronald E. Thiel Jr., 64, of Villa Park, Illinois, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025. Loving father of Eric Thiel; dear son of the late Patricia, nee Gabriec, and the late Ronald Thiel Sr.; fond brother of Daniel Thiel; and uncle to Danny and Jessica.
Born on October 27, 1960, Ron grew up in Villa Park and attended Willowbrook High School. He was known for his big heart, quick wit, and love of conversation. Ron could talk to anyone about anything, and people always felt heard when they were with him.
In 2003, at age 43, Ron was in a car accident that altered his life. Though life changed dramatically, Ron's spirit endured. People often remember two versions of Ron - the vibrant, humorous, hands-on guy before the accident, and the quieter, resilient man after. But through it all, his kindness, sense of humor, and loyalty remained constant. Before his accident, Ron was incredibly handy - always working with his hands, and helping others without hesitation. He loved working on projects, taking care of dogs, playing and watching hockey, camping, fishing, and especially being around friends. He had a deep appreciation for classic rock, especially Elton John, and never missed a good Western on TV.
After the accident, Ron built a new life and continued to form meaningful relationships. Though he was no longer able to physically be there for others in the same way, he never stopped showing up emotionally. He was always checking in with friends and family - offering support, sharing laughs, and staying connected. His presence was deeply felt, even from a distance. The memories of both versions of Ron are cherished deeply by all who knew him.
Memorial Gathering Saturday, July 12th, 10:00 AM, until time of service at 11:00 AM, at Steuerle Chapel, 15 W Park Blvd, Villa Park, IL, 60181. Interment private. Funeral info: steuerlefh.com or (630) 832-4161.
