Obituary for Roque Alaniz, Jr.
November 29, 1943 – November 10, 2025
Roque Alaniz, Jr., 81, of Palmview, Texas, passed away on November 10, 2025, in the loving presence of his wife, Irma Treviño Alaniz-his partner in laughter and life for 55 years. The two married on October 10, 1969, and shared a lifetime of love, patience, and playful teasing that only grew stronger with time.
Born on November 29, 1943, in Mission, Texas, Roque was one of 21 children born to Sara Zamora Alaniz and Roque Alaniz, Sr. (both deceased). As the youngest son, he was a little spoiled-and everyone knew it-but he carried that title with charm, humor, and an unmistakable presence that made him unforgettable.
Roque lived a full, joyful life surrounded by family and friends who adored him. Together with Irma, he raised their daughter, Sandra Martinez (née Alaniz), and found endless pride in his grandchildren, Alyssa Hernandez and Ryan Hernandez. He was also blessed with many nieces and nephews whom he loved deeply-and who will forever remember their "Uncle Roque" for his jokes, his laughter, and his big heart.
He was known for his goofy sense of humor, strong will, and that mischievous grin that made everyone smile. He'd flick us off jokingly, tell stories that got taller every time, and somehow always managed to make life lighter.
Roque loved being outdoors-hunting, fishing, and, of course, barbecuing. The BBQ may not have been the best (and he knew it), but he loved every minute of doing it, and that love made it perfect in its own way. He had a soft spot for animals and found joy in life's simple pleasures. When he picked up his guitar, he'd strum the same few chords on repeat, and without fail, we'd roll our eyes and laugh. Those same chords now sound like home.
He was loved endlessly by many, adored by his family, and will be deeply, truly missed. His laughter, stubbornness, and steady love will forever echo in the hearts of everyone lucky enough to have known him.
Services will be held at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission, Texas, on November 14, 2025.
Burial will take place at Valley Memorial Gardens on November 15, 2025.
In true Roque fashion-come as you are. Bring your stories, your laughter, and maybe something smoky from the grill.
"He may have only played a few chords, but he turned them into a lifetime of music, love, and laughter."
