Rosalie "Rosie" Muraro Smith passed away peacefully on November 7th at the age of 83, after a brief illness, surrounded by her loved ones. She leaves an immeasurable mark on her family and friends, and on the children, she raised in a home filled with warmth, gatherings, and delicious appetizers.
Daughter of Leo Muraro and Rose Schmid Muraro, and middle sister to Leo and Robert "Bob," she grew up on Robert's Ave in Baltimore Maryland. She attended Sacred Heart of Mary elementary school and graduated from The Catholic High School ('59) in Baltimore. She studied at Towson State University, where she met Charles "Charley" Coleman. They had two children together, Michael George Coleman and the late Cynthia Coleman (William) Eberhardt, who would eventually give her four granddaughters. After several years in Baltimore, Rosalie relocated to Annapolis, Maryland, where she met Eric Smith in the 1970's. They created a blended family home in Eastport, and she became stepmother to Tammy Jarman, Annett Jarman, and Doug Smith. Like so many others in Annapolis, she began a career around sailing. Rosalie and Eric started a yacht sales business, Bay Yacht Agency, around 1972. After that, she launched her own business, RMS Designer Collections. She then transitioned to roles at the Maryland Chamber of Commerce and Bell Atlantic.
Rosalie spent the remainder of her life in Annapolis, with her partner Harry Bratcher. She was a skilled sailor and savvy businesswoman who never missed a chance to enjoy a good conversation. Her adventurous spirit took her all around the world, but her favorite place to visit was Italy. She was always ready for local beach trips to Rehoboth and Ocean City. Elegant and graceful, she was always impeccably dressed in the perfect accessories for any occasion. Her talent for hosting and storytelling made everyone feel welcome. She loved her friends and family and was incredibly proud of her four granddaughters.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Rose, her daughter Cyndi, and her nephew Leo Muraro III. She is survived by her life partner, Harry Bratcher; her brothers, Leo (Madelen) Muraro and Robert (Rebecca) Muraro; her son, Mike Coleman; her nieces, Aileen (Bob) Hamilton, Annette (Scott) Perschke, and Emily Moldenhauer (Chris Benney); her nephews, Matt (Kristen) Muraro and John Muraro; and her granddaughters, Allie Eberhardt, Caroline Eberhardt (Andrew) Edwards, Eva Coleman, and Fiona Coleman. She is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews, and countless other loved ones and friends.
Memorial services to honor this strong, determined, and charming matriarch will be held after the holidays. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rosalie's name to the Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park, specifically for their Box of Rain Education Program (please note this in the comments of the donation page). Rosalie's family and friends will remember her as a warm, steady presence in their lives. As she used to say to her granddaughters as they walked down the porch stairs of her house, "See you later, alligator," to which they would reply, "After a while, crocodile."
