Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wooster Funeral Home and Cremation Services - Elmore City from Nov. 18 to Nov. 19, 2025.
Rosalyn Betty Brooks, known to most people simply as "Granny", age 99 ¾, of
Elmore City, Oklahoma, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord on November 13, 2025. Born on February 13, 1926, she lived nearly a century filled with faith, laughter, and an unwavering love for her family. A devoted Christian, Granny spent her life with a joyful spirit.
She was known for her sense of humor, her love of playing cards and dominos with family, and quilting. Her home was a gathering place where there was always good food, storytelling, and lots of laughter. She loved her family fiercely and prayed faithfully for each of them by name. Even in her later years, she knew the birthday of each child, grandchild, sibling, and in-laws.
Over her long life, she witnessed nearly a century of change and the invention of all our modern-day conveniences. Born in Warren, Oklahoma, living out of a covered wagon as her family lived the life of migrant workers and traveled from farm to farm in Oklahoma and Texas before they became sharecroppers in the Elmore City area. She married her first love, Jim Delbert Roady, on May 22, 1943, and they had three boys: Jimmy Lee, Robert Dale and Jerry Glenn. When Jim Delbert died at age 45, Rosalyn continued her education, receiving an associate's degree in accounting by attending college with Jerry. She laughed about how embarrassed he was to have his mom at his college. Rosalyn was twice blessed and found love at her workplace, JC Penney, and married Eddie Tuney Brooks on February 13, 1976. They lived a happy life, gardening on their land, in the house that they helped build just outside of Elmore City until Eddie passed away in 2019. She spent her final years in McLoud, Oklahoma, with her granddaughter – but Elmore City was always "home" for her.
Rosalyn was proceeded in death by her parents, Ama & Ruby Curtis, her siblings: Hubert Curtis, Claydene Curtis, Loyd Curtis, Glenn Curtis, Marilyn Curtis Chronister, Bill Curtis and M.E. Curtis; her husbands, Jim D. Roady and Eddie Brooks; her sons: Jim Roady, Bob Roady, and Jerry Roady; her stepson: Shelby Brooks.
Granny is survived by 3 sisters-in-law: Marie Curtis, Claudene Curtis and Lois Curtis, 3 daughters-in-law: Portia Roady Dennis, Jean Roady, and Narita Roady; 10 granddaughters: LiAnn Roady Armitage, Robbie Roady Stavinoha, Christie Roady Trowbridge, Cathy Roady Krausse, Terrie Roady Allen, Cindy Roady Scarberry, Aimee Roady Hobbs, Amber Roady Whitmire, Cheryl Roady Winkle, and Ashley Roady Garcia; 1 grandson: Michael Brooks; 22 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren, with 2 more on the way.
A celebration of her life will be held on November 21, 2025, at Mammoth Baptist Church, 339943 US 62, Meeker, Oklahoma, at 2:00pm. The burial will be at Katie Cemetery that same day at 10:00am. Both services will be closed casket; viewing will be available Thursday at Wooster Funeral Home in Elmore City.
Her legacy of faith, humor and love will continue to live on in everyone who had the blessing of knowing her.
