Rose S. Bowden, 90, of Fremont, OH passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 5, 2024 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, OH surrounded by her family. She was born on February 9, 1934 in Fremont, OH to Alban and Francis (Walter) Mehling. Rose was a 1952 graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School.
Rose married Gaylord Bowden on January 29, 1955 at St. Jospeh Catholic Church. She worked for S.E. Hyman Company, Pioneer Sugar, Croghan Bank and Wagner’s Country Inn. Rose was a member at St. Joseph Catholic Church where she was involved in many areas such as the Rosary Society, RCIA program, the church committee, a reader and many others. She was also a member of the Fremont Eagles and enjoyed volunteering with Meals on Wheels, Share and Care and at Fremont Memorial Hospital. Rose lived in a “Family Divided” as a Michigan Wolverines fan and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians. She enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, knitting, reading and writing but her true love was dedicated to her family. She loved to spend her time with family and attend her grandchildren’s sporting events.
Rose is survived by her husband of sixty-nine years, Gaylord Bowden, Fremont, OH; daughters, Nancy Vassar, Port Clinton, Sue Bowden, and Sharon Paradiso, both of Fremont, OH; grandchildren, Jennifer (Josh) Kramer, Kevin (Caitlin) Vassar, Jessica (Craig) Homan, Chelsea Paradiso; great grandchildren, Charlie Kramer, George Kramer, Hudson Vassar, Dempsey Vassar, Jude Homan and brother & sister-in-law, Lee and Sharon Bowden.
She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Richard, Carl, Paul, Cy, Weed and Mary Mehling and great grandson, James Homan.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 709 Croghan St. Fremont, OH 43420.
Mass of Christian Burial will follow visitation at the church beginning at 11:00 am.
Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials can be made in Rose’s honor to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bishop Hoffman Catholic Schools St. Joseph Campus or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Arrangements were entrusted with Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory.
