Rose Ciulla, 86, of Cape Coral Florida, former resident of Gloucester for 82 years, passed away on Monday June 2nd comfortably in her home. Rose was the daughter of the late Capt. Carlo and Mary Ciaramitaro and wife of the late Augustus Ciulla.
Rose graduated with honors from Gloucester High School in 1956. Her ambition in her yearbook read: "to be an efficient secretary". She went on to exceed that expectation. After high school she worked in the offices of the United Shoe in Beverly.
She married her husband "Gus" at the age of 18. The two of them along with her father, Capt. Carlo Ciaramitaro, went on to establish a thriving wholesale fish business, Star Fisheries. Her life became work and her work became home, raising her family in a dedicated hard-working world. One of her past times that most did not know is that she loved to write poetry while working long, late nights. The following is a passage from a poem titled: "A Family Business" -
"As we work each long day, we push real hard to try to be the best, the first, the ones to achieve it all, every day. Will there be time later on to catch up on the world we do not see?... Will we be able to sit by the shore and see the waves and birds and children at play? Too busy today, but it's ok. We'll try tomorrow- maybe, or maybe not."
Rose loved to dance. She danced along her sister Marie through her school years at the Garnder Perry Dance School. She was a talented tap dancer and could impress all with her jitterbug. She later enjoyed living out her dance dreams through her granddaughter's dance recitals and competitions.
In her later years she learned and challenged anyone in her presence to recite the alphabet backwards as well as to name all the presidents to date. She loved to boast about having 9 great grandsons and each of their daily accomplishments!
She is survived by her children, Lawrence Ciulla, Rosemarie Cranston and her husband Sean Cranston; granddaughters, Meghan Frontiero and her husband William Frontiero, Carla O'Connor and fiancé Jon Goodhue, and Jamie Anderson; Nine great grandsons, Logan, Blake, Riley, Cameron, Tanner, Owen, Jack, Gavin, and Liam; sister, Mary (Marie) Repetto and sister-like cousin, Frances (Skip) Bouchie as well as multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her sister, Alice Ciaramitaro.
A graveside prayer service will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester on Monday, June 30th at 12noon.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to the Holy Family Parish of Gloucester, 60 Prospect Street, Gloucester, MA 01930.
