Rose Simon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Greenville Memorial Home on Aug. 18, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Rose Eliane Devil Jean Simon, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, in Jersey City, New Jersey, due to

complications related to diabetes.

Rose Eliane was born in Leprêtre, Chantal, Haiti, on July 15, 1939. Her father, Samuel Devil, was raised

in Fond Fredes, Les Cayes, and her mother, Micosia Jean Baptiste, in Leprêtre. At approximately five

years of age, she relocated to Les Cayes to attend school.

In her youth, Rose Eliane enjoyed singing, cooking, and embroidery. Throughout her high school

years, she was an active member of her church choir and frequently performed with them. She was

devout in her faith, with one of her favorite scriptures being Psalm 91.

While attending high school in Les Cayes, Rose Eliane often traveled back to her hometown of

Leprêtre for summer vacations. During one of these trips, she met Mr. Alfred Hiram Jean Simon, a

young local businessman. Their acquaintance began when Hiram returned her lost purse, which she

had misplaced during her journey. A brief interaction that day eventually blossomed into a lifelong

union. They were married on August 23rd 1962, thereafter residing alternately in Les Cayes and

Leprêtre.

Shortly after their marriage, the couple relocated to Leprêtre, where Rose Eliane served as an

elementary school teacher. She was highly regarded by her students and thoroughly enjoyed her

teaching career. However, as their family grew, the couple decided to move back to Les Cayes to

provide their children with better educational opportunities.

Rose Eliane and her husband were passionate advocates for education. During their time in Les Cayes,

they not only prioritized their children's schooling but also opened their home to numerous other

children who lacked stable accommodations. They ensured that these children had a safe home,

quality education, and solid family values. After all the children had completed their education, the

couple returned to Leprêtre in 1995, where they resided until her husband's passing.

In 2007, she relocated to New Jersey to reunite with two of her daughters and grandchildren, where

she continued to impart her wisdom and serve as a role model for them until her passing.

Her most cherished role was as a mother and grandmother. She was known for her unwavering

encouragement and support of her children and grandchildren in all their endeavors.

Rose Eliane is reunited in eternity with her parents, Samuel and Micosia; her husband, Hiram; her

daughter, Nancie; her brothers, Orel and Wilson , Beaufils ; and her sisters, Marie Ann Dite Elucide

,Vilna. She is survived by her sisters, Sores, Louisa, Marie Lucie, Joceline, Marie Carmelle, Villaine,

Junie, Juna, and Jettie; her brothers, Durand, Michel Person, Juneau, Samy. Her legacy continues

through her children, Frantze, Marie Adelson, Ludger, Michel Angelo, Marie Therese Juniore, and

Kethia; her nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, and

extended family members.

A devoted mother, Rose Eliane was a source of inspiration to all who knew her, embodying grace and

resilience in the face of life's challenges. Her presence will be missed deeply, but her memory will

forever remain in the hearts of those she loved.
