Rose Melendez, age 41, of Lemont, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 5, 2025, at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. She was born on September 21, 1983, in Arcata, California.
Rose was raised in McKinleyville, California, where she cultivated a deep appreciation for creativity and nature. After high school, she worked at Holly Yashi, handcrafting jewelry and honing her artistic skills. In 2005, during a vibrant Mardi Gras celebration, she met the love of her life, Patrick O'Neill. Their connection was instant, and they were married on July 25, 2007.
A gifted artist, Rose loved arts and crafts and expressed her creativity in everything she did. She was known for her long walks with her beloved dog, Auggie-often venturing out even in the coldest months. Rose's spirit was warm and uplifting; she radiated positivity and brought light to all who knew her. She had a deep love for music, especially reggae, and found joy in cooking, with a special fondness for barbecue.
Above all, Rose's greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, and a loving daughter, sister, and aunt.
She is survived by her husband, Patrick O'Neill; her cherished children, Quinn and Gavin; her parents, Leonard Melendez and Angela Luna; her sister, Deanna Melendez; and her nephew, Johnny James Cumpston.
Private services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to support her beloved children, Quinn and Gavin.
