The daughter of the late Nicholas DiGirolamo and Mary D'Anna DiGirolamo, she was born August 13, 1946, in New York City.
A former member and Queen of IBPOEW Lodge No. 1612, the Pride of Sullivan County, NY, Rosemaria was deeply rooted in her community and lived a life filled with devotion to family. Affectionately known as Mrs. Sutton to close friends and family in the Village of Monticello, NY, she carried herself with warmth, strength, and grace. To her niece, Donna, she was a partner-in-crime, dear friend, and closest confidant. To her grandchildren, she was lovingly known as Grammy Rose or Mama Rose by the youngest of them; she was always quick with wit, a hug, and a proud smile. She never missed a chance to speak of her grandchildren's accomplishments, and her "boys" – David, Eddie, and Daniel Jr. – were the center of her heart. Her strength, spirit, laughter, and unwavering pride in her family will remain a guiding light to all who knew her.
She is survived by her three sons: David James Sutton of Providence, RI, Eddie James Sutton of Clover, SC, and Daniel James Sutton Jr. of Trenton, NJ; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including Donna Croce of Walker Valley, NY. She was predeceased by two daughters: Jamie Hurley in 1975, and Doreen Hurley in 1989; a son: John Hurley in 1980; her partner: Daniel James Sutton Sr. in 2006; and three brothers: Vito DiGirolamo in 1987, Angelo DiGirolamo Sr. in 1994, and Nicholas DiGirolamo Jr. in 1998.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 18, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. Her funeral service will be held on Monday, May 19, at 11:00am at the funeral home with Fr. Bob Porpora officiating. Cremation will follow the services.
Memorial contributions can be made to the United Way of Sullivan County, 33 Lakewood Avenue, Monticello, NY, 12701.
