Rosemary O'Donnell-Hoxie, age 70, of Cumberland RI, passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Boston and raised in Sudbury MA, she was the daughter of the late John J. O'Donnell and the late Louise Barretta O'Donnell. She graduated from Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School in 1972, and was a Cape Cod resident for 33 years before relocating to Cumberland RI in 2021.
Rose ran a home daycare business for many years in Needham MA and Yarmouth Port MA. Later in her career, she became a certified phlebotomist, and ultimately managed multiple laboratory sites for Cape Cod Healthcare until her retirement.
Rose was a life-long lover of music and a talented singer, songwriter, and guitar player. She performed on the Cape and Islands with the acclaimed musical groups As Time Goes By and 3 to 1, as well as at the Barnstable Comedy Club. Rose also had a love of karaoke and spent endless nights entertaining friends with her enchanting voice.
Rose was blessed with lifelong friends and also made new ones wherever she went. Those who knew her will remember the tremendous love she showed to everyone and her great sense of humor. She embodied a generous soul and a kind spirit, always willing to do anything for the people she loved. "Mama Rose" loved to cook for friends and family and always included her secret ingredients in every dish: love & butter.
Surviving are her husband of 23 years, Richard (Ryck) J. Hoxie II; daughter Jennifer DiPietro and her husband Derrek of Attleboro MA; sons Jeffrey Japinga and his wife Genevieve of Baltimore MD, Timothy O'Donnell Jr. of Cumberland RI, and John O'Donnell of Cumberland RI; sisters Ellen Blackmer and her husband Bill of Canton GA, and Kathleen Berry and her husband Joe of Caswell Beach NC; brother, the late Timothy O'Donnell of Nashua NH; grandchildren Nicholas Japinga of Baltimore MD, and Nathan and Olivia DiPietro of Attleboro MA; cousins, nieces, nephews and many, many friends, young and old.
Per Rosemary's wishes, a celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Please check back to the online memorial on the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home website for updates.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Center for Innovative Cancer Research at The Miriam Hospital, Providence RI.
