MUNCIE- Rosemyra P. Ritchey, 98, passed away Wednesday 22, 2025, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
She was born July 23, 1927, in Randolph County, the daughter of Rolla R and Grace M. (Rowe) Parrott. Rosemyra graduated from Wayne High School in 1945. She married Robert A. Ritchey October 19, 1946, in Winchester, Randolph County, Indiana.
If you knew Rosemyra, you knew she was determined to live an independent life and did so till her death. She lived in her own apartment at Westminster Village in Muncie a little over five (5) years. She made many friends there who shared with us how much they enjoyed her company and how much she would be missed.
Rosemyra had a variety of jobs including a glass factory, casket factory, real estate and lastly Ball State University dining service. She made several lifelong friends at Ball State and enjoyed the students.
She enjoyed traveling including going to France and then Portugal to visit her daughter and son-in-law and many Ambassadair and bus trips. She was an avid reader who also enjoyed working Sudoku puzzles. She loved watching NASCAR races, rodeos, and the Indianapolis Colts and Pacers. She looked forward to an annual trip to the casino and lunch with her granddaughter and husband, Melissa & Eric. She always looked forward to shopping trips with her daughter, Margo. At 93 years of age, she learned to use a tablet for Facebook and even Face Timing to keep up with family.
She is survived by her son Douglas (Lori) Ritchey of Indiana, daughter Margo Monks of Alabama, three (3) grandchildren Melissa (Eric) Zimmerman of South Dakota, Molly (Shannon) Midtgard of Missouri, and Ramona Ritchey of Indiana, three (3) great grandchildren, one (1) great great-granddaughter due in 2026, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Robert A. Ritchey, a WW2 veteran and POW, receiver of the EAME Theater Ribbon w/2 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Metal, Purple Heart, and World War II Victory Medal, her parents Rolla & Grace Parrott, son-in-law Merrett Monks, brothers, Hollis (Todd), Deloss, Willis, Boyden, Vernon, Henry and their spouses, and infant great-grandson Nathan Rylie Schrader.
Cremation will take place at Meeks Mortuary and private Services will be held later. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
