Rosetta Ursula Canafax

Rosetta Fanguy Canafax, aged 93, a native of Bayou Blue, and a recent resident of Metairie, peacefully went to meet the Lord on Saturday, December 27, 2025. She was born on March 29, 1932 in Houma, Louisiana to Shelly and Lucille Fanguy.

Family and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, January 8, 2026 from 9:30am until service time at St. Louis Catholic Church in Bayou Blue, LA. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow visitation on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at 11:00am at St.Louis Church with burial to be in the church cemetery.

Rosetta is preceded in death by her beloved husband of fifty-one years, Holmes Canafax; son, Marshall Canafax; her infant brother, Floyd Fanguy; her parents, and siblings, Elodie Blades (Victor Malborough and Thomas Blades), Shirley Fournier (Earl), Charles (Betty), Lawrence, and Julius Fanguy.

Rosetta is survived by her daughter, Donaleen Chaisson (James, deceased), son, Carl Canafax (Anita), and daughter Lorell Hornbrook (Allan), twelve grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by sibling Helena McAdams-Barrileaux and Hugh Paul Fanguy (JoAnne); and in-laws, Edith Fanguy and Roberta Fanguy.

Rosetta was a devoted parishioner of St. Louis Catholic Church, where she was a long-time member of the Ladies Altar Society and faithfully served as a Eucharistic Minister for thirty-five years.

A dedicated homemaker, Rosetta embraced life with resilience and grace. She found great joy in cooking and proudly competed for many years in the Bayou Gourmet Cooking Contest. She loved Cajun dancing and traveling, having visited forty-nine states and experiencing the honor of being in the presence of two popes in Rome.

She was a talented quilter and deeply cherished the multi-generational tradition of sewing and quilting she shared with her ancestors and descendants. She hand-stitched many quilts for her family and completed over three hundred quilts during her lifetime.

She belonged to several social groups and was blessed with many loyal friends, especially her cherished groups known as the "Ya Ya's" and the "Ten Commandments".

She had a contagious joy for life and, each day, she strived to be a better wife, mother and friend. Her legacy of faith, love, creativity, and devotion will live on in all who were blessed to know her.
