Rosetta Mae Colpitts
May 19, 1933 – December 27, 2024
Rosetta Mae Colpitts, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully December 27th, 2024 at the age of 91. She was born on May 19, 1933, in Antioch, Nebraska, to Russell Locker and Hazel Colerick. Mae was united in marriage to Ivan Allen Colpitts on December 31, 1953, a union that lasted for 62 years.
She is survived by four children: Craig Colpitts, Sherrie Zupancic (Scott), Vickie Stringham (Keith), and Glenda Sullivan. Mae was a proud and loving grandmother to 10 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 16 who affectionately referred to her as "GG". She is also survived by three siblings: Jerri Macgregor of Lakewood, CO; Linnea Ware (Leonard) of Stratton, CO; and Ray Matteson (Suzanne) of Lamar, CO.
Mae was preceded in death by her mother, Hazel Matteson, and four siblings: Jeanne Davidson, Lois Payte, George Workman and Kathy White.
A 1951 graduate of Wheat Ridge High School, Mae's life was marked by her love for family and a deep faith in Jesus Christ. Her relationship with Ivan began on July 4, 1953, when they met at a family picnic in Genesee, CO. Their courtship was quick, and they were engaged on Ivan's birthday, August 23rd, and married on New Year's Eve that same year. Together, they raised their children in Arvada, CO, where Mae worked for the Jefferson County School District for over 20 years as a school bus driver, retiring in 1991.
In retirement, Mae and Ivan enjoyed traveling, visiting family and friends, and spending winters in Ajo and Casa Grande, AZ, while returning to Arvada for the summer months.
Mae's deep faith was the foundation of her life, and she was a devoted prayer warrior. She also had a fun-loving side, especially when it came to garage sales and thrift stores, where she always found plenty of treasures to bring home. Her passion for collecting "stuff" even inspired one of Ivan's most well-known songs, "I Got Stuff," which he often sang with a smile.
Mae's infectious spirit, sense of humor, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
