Roy Cannaday Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kerr Brothers Funeral Home - Main St. on Jan. 8, 2026.
Roy Burette Cannaday, 84, of Lexington, Kentucky, peacefully passed away on January 7, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at Baptist Health, Lexington.
Roy was born on April 12, 1941, in Gorham, Texas, to the late Troy B. Cannaday and Leora Grace Cannaday. He dedicated his career to computer technology and retired from the Commonwealth of Kentucky as an Information Systems Supervisor. Roy had a deep love for computer systems and proudly maintained an impressive personal collection-a reflection of both his curiosity and passion for technology.
Above all else, Roy loved his family and was a devoted father and grandfather. He found joy in life's simple pleasures, including playing games with his family, working on puzzles, and dancing whenever the moment felt right. One of his greatest joys was bowling; he spent many happy years bowling with friends at Southland Lanes. Roy was also a cherished member of the "B-Team," a close-knit group of friends who regularly enjoyed lunches and dinners together, sharing laughter and friendship.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Jane K. Cannaday; his children, Joan Lilly (Robin), Mark Kendrick (Joelle), and Cynthia Spears; his grandchildren, Heather Cox, Chad Kendrick, Robert "Bob" Lilly, Sarah Burton, Abby Spears, Catesby Spears, Cecilia Kendrick, and Noah Spears; and ten beloved great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his grandson, Aaron Kendrick; his brothers, Jim Cannaday and Lynn Cannaday; and his sister, Leora Meadows.
Roy will be remembered for his intelligence, kindness, devotion to family, and the joy he brought to those around him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. A memorial service to honor Roy's life will held at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, March 14, 2025 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, 463 East Main Street, Lexington, Kentucky, 40507. A celebration of life to honor and remember Roy's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, 463 East Main Street, Lexington, Kentucky, 40507. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, 463 East Main Street, Lexington, Kentucky, 40507, is honored to be in care of arrangements for Roy Burette Cannaday.
