Roy Carter Obituary

Roy L. Carter, Jr., 81, of Newburgh, passed away Monday, March 9, 2026 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. He was born December 6, 1944 in Henderson, KY to the late Virginia (Ewing) and Roy Lee Carter, Sr.

Roy graduated from Henderson High School and served in the United States Army. He was a musician in the high school band and this inspired his love of music. He attended the University of Evansville in the Music Department and continued what became his lifelong career as a musician. Roy played at the Deerhead Sidewalk Café and Bar as a member of the group, Blues 4 You. Roy entertained the Tri-State as one of the musical acts in the very first W.C. Handy Blues and Barbeque Festival held in Henderson, Kentucky and performed in every festival thereafter. Roy was raised as a Methodist.

Roy is survived by his companion, Ann Kautzmann; son, Roy Micah (Dawn) Carter; grandchildren, Roy Olan (Addison) Carter, Quincy Carter and Cali Carter; brothers, George Carter, Roger (Sharon) Carter, William Donald (Susan) Carter, Ronnie Carter and Tom Carter; sisters, Madonna (Jim) Combs and Sandra Lynn (Jon Douglas) Septer.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville. A Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2026 at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Fairmont Cemetery in Henderson, KY.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Arts at EVPL, Evansville Public Library, 200 SE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Evansville, IN 47713.
