Mr. Roy W. Grooms, age 87, a longtime resident of Mt. Pleasant, passed away only four days after his beloved wife, Betty Grooms.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Grooms officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 12:00 PM until the service hour at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born and raised in Maury County, Tennessee, Roy was the son of the late Roy Eugene Grooms and Mary Etta England Grooms. A 1957 graduate of Haylong High School, Roy was a talented football player during his school years. After graduation, he dedicated his life to working alongside his family on Grooms Farm, a family tobacco farm that became his lifelong career. In fact, Grooms Farm was the only job Roy ever held, a testament to his loyalty, work ethic, and love for the land and family tradition.
Roy and Betty were faithful members of Porters Chapel Church, where they built many lasting friendships. A devoted family man and avid sports fan, Roy—affectionately known as “Granddaddy”—could often be found in his recliner watching one game on TV while listening to another on his headphones. He also loved bird hunting and was especially proud of his bird dogs. Above all, his greatest passion was fishing. He found peace on the river, spending countless hours on his boat, and was known by all as an exceptional fisherman. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Roy is survived by his son, Dwayne (Tammy) Grooms of Rainbow City, Alabama; brothers, Arnold (Patricia) Grooms, Charles (Nancy) Grooms, and Tony (Beverly) Grooms; sisters, Billie Jean Owens and Patricia Fralix; son-in-law, Billy Fralix; grandchildren, DJ (Kylie) Grooms, Kayla (Brooks) Robinson, and Matt Bobo; and great-grandchildren, Easton Grooms, Enzlie Grooms, Kade Robinson, Maxen Robinson, Jaxton Robinson, Lucas Robinson, Austin Newkirk, Hunter Bobo, and Matthew Bobo. He will also be fondly remembered by his special caregivers and friends, Debbie Rose and Beth Goll.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Betty Grooms; daughter, Connie Jean Grooms Fralix; brother, Danny Grooms and his wife Doris; brothers-in-law, William Owens and David Fralix; and his best hunting and fishing buddy, Owen Moore.
Pallbearers will be Timmy Owens, Jason Grooms, Phillip Grooms, Chuck Grooms, Josh Grooms, and Michael Fralix. Honorary pallbearers include Amos McCoy, all of his nieces and nephews, and the Porters Chapel Church family.
