Roy entered the workforce as a laborer at GW Golden Construction Company and subsequently worked as a Soil Inspector for the Dept. of Highways in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. After working for several years, Roy excelled in the world of higher education, especially Chemistry. After earning his BS in Chemistry from the University of Alberta (1956), he was employed there as a Teaching Assistant (1956-58) as he completed his MS in Organic Chemistry (1958). Roy moved on from the University of Alberta to the University of Wisconsin, where he was an Alumni Research Foundation Fellow (1958-59) and a Teaching and Research Assistant (1958-64). He completed his time at the University of Wisconsin by earning his PhD in Organic Chemistry (1965).
Upon finishing his studies, Roy took a job at Kodak in their Color Photography Division. He spent his first 14 years in the division as a Research Chemist in Kodak's Color Organic Chemistry Laboratory. Here, he focused on the synthesis of couplers and nucleating agents. Roy then became a Staff Assistant in the same division and held this position until his retirement in 1991. He was an active member of the American Chemical Society for 61 years.
Outside of the laboratory, Roy was a devoted family man and avid hobbyist. He enjoyed studying genealogy and traveled extensively with family and friends. He was also passionate about antique cars and even successfully restored the first car he ever owned, a 1953 Chevrolet. Roy will be forever loved and remembered by those he leaves behind.
