Roy was born on January 30,1948 in Warsaw, New York to Graydon and Anita Stewart of Perry Center. He started his grade school career in a one room school house in Perry Center. From third grade onward to high school he was in the Perry Central District. He graduated in 1966.
After graduation Roy attended the University of Tampa and SUNY at Geneseo. He was drafted in 1968 and was in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. He was a Sgt. E5.
Roy and Gail married in 1972, had two sons: Chad Michael Stewart, wife Jennifer from Kansas City, MO; and Matthew Roy Stewart, wife Holly from Tempe, AZ. Grandchildren: Jacob Stewart, Joshua Stewart, Faith Stewart, and Alaina Stewart.
Family members include his brother-in-law R. Douglas Smith, wife Jane, and niece Betsy of Los Angeles, CA and his sister-in-law Mary Roberta Smith, partner Billie Burnor of Ventura, CA.
Roy worked for Combined Insurance Company of America, Lawyer’s Cooperative Publishing Company, and The Chase Group. His passion was spreading the word of Jesus. When he retired, he started a prison ministry both in Kansas City and Florida. He started a Christian Global Ministry and shared Jesus with people around the World. He always told people to read the Book of John to get to know his Savior. Roy loved his prayer buddies on their Tuesday morning prayer group call; his friends at Ash Cigar Shop, and all that participated in the Fireside chats. He was an Elder for many years at Gashland Evangelical Church in Kansas City. He will have a military service and burial at Terrace Park Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 21 at 2 p.m.
