Rozelle Roppolo Springfield went to be with her heavenly father on December 30, 2024 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's.
Her funeral and reception will be at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in Granbury. Please check the Wiley Funeral Home website in Granbury (and/or Facebook) for updates showing the date and time. She will be laid to rest in our family plot at Clover Hill Cemetery in Lott, Texas at a later date during a private family burial.
Rozelle was born in Marlin, Texas on September 12, 1946, to Nick J. Roppolo and Frances Palasota Roppolo whose parents immigrated to Texas from Sicily in the early 1900's. Her parents owned and operated Roppolo Furniture Inc. Rozelle attended Marlin High School where she was a majorette, and a member of several Texas State champion band ensembles. After high school, she attended Baylor University. Rozelle met the love of her life, Eugene (Gene) Springfield in High School and married on December 27, 1966.
Rozelle dearly loved her husband, her two wonderful children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews. Rozelle was extremely proud of her Italian heritage. She was an avid golfer who loved playing golf at various Country Clubs and courses around the country with her husband Gene including: Texas, Florida, Oklahoma, Hawaii, Illinois, Michigan, New Mexico, Missouri, Louisiana, Nevada, and Colorado. Rozelle was a very serious golfer. She was honored to serve as President of the Ladies Golf Associations at three of the Country Clubs she belonged to including Sonterra in San Antonio, Lost Creek in Austin, and Whitmore in St. Charles, MO. She was Director of Pecan Plantation Country Club's Golf Tournament benefiting Breast Cancer Awareness for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc., something very important and dear to her heart as a survivor of breast cancer. Rozelle won many tournaments and received many awards, especially two specific ones that included "Women's Gross" Club Champion and "Match Play" Club Champion at Whitmore Country Club in St. Louis.
In the 1980's Rozelle was showroom manager for Roppolo Flowers Inc., a wholesale floral corporation with the primary showroom at the Dallas World Trade Center and assisted other family members with sales at the Highpoint Showroom during the annual Highpoint Furniture Market show in Highpoint, North Carolina.
Rozelle and her husband Gene and two children moved many times with Southwestern Bell Corporation, living in San Antonio (three different times), Dallas, St. Louis, Mo (two different times), Austin and Ft. Worth. After her wonderful husband, her "Angel" Gene retired in San Antonio in 2004, they built a new home in Pecan Plantation (Granbury) where they have lived to this day.
Rozelle was a beautiful, loving and generous person with a personality that was unmatched, more importantly, she was a very devoted Christian. She attended St. Francis Cabrini Catholic church in Granbury and was always concerned about the health and welfare of family and friends and would do anything to help and or assist others including continuously supporting St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Shriners Children's Hospital, The Wounded Warrior Project and St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church.
Rozelle was preceded in death by her parents, her sister-in-law Martha Ann Springfield Curtis and husband Randy Curtis, and two other sister-in-law's, Shirley Springfield and Charlotte Roppolo.
Rozelle is survived by her husband of 58 years, Eugene (Gene) Springfield, two sons Todd Springfield and his husband Richard Gonzales, Stephen Springfield and his wife Joy, four granddaughters, Abigail Springfield and partner Brendan Tran, Sarah Springfield, Sophia Springfield and husband Nicklous Markarian, Chloe Springfield, two great grandchildren Louise Springfield Tran and Arthur Springfield Tran, her brother Joe Roppolo and wife Linda, her brother-in-law Chester Springfield, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Springfield family would like to add a special thank you to Michaela Hanna and Lorie Little, her two private caregivers, for the care, unconditional love, concern and dedication they showed Rozelle and our family during her illness and our appreciation to the Beehive Homes of Granbury including each of their exceptional caregivers for their special love and care they demonstrated every day.
