YADKINVILLE – Mrs. Ruby Slater Driver, age 84, of Henry Street, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 7, 2025, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. She was born on May 23, 1940, in Forsyth County to the late George Gaither and Clara Shelton Slater.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Ruby lived a life full of love, kindness, and joy. Ruby worked for many years at Chatham Blankets, Hanes Hoisery, Unifi Inc., and lastly at Sheek-Taylor Drugs. She was an active member of Union United Methodist Church in Lewisville before finding a church home at Maplewood Baptist Church in her later years.
Ruby was affectionately known as "Grandma" and "Memaw" to her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a special love for nature, particularly her flowers, and could always be found outside tending to her garden or making her home a warm and welcoming place. Her passion for spending time with family and friends was evident, especially during those special outings when Ruby enjoyed "eating out" and staying on the go, making memories wherever she went.
On March 20, 1959, Ruby married the love of her life, Bobby Driver, who preceded her in death on October 25, 1996. Their enduring love left a lasting legacy that continues through their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her brothers-in-law, Russell Driver and Leo Driver.
Ruby’s survivors include her devoted children, Tim (Cheryl) Driver and Pam Driver (Tony) Roten; her beloved grandchildren, Paige Hobson (Jamie Gregory), Kendall (Brianna Speight) Driver, Crystal (Dustin) Wilson, Bentley Roten; and her great-grandchildren, Kelvin and Alex Alonzo, Kinsley Gregory, and Lucas and Maddox Wilson. Also surviving are her sister, Peggy (the late Rufus) Willard; her brother, Bill (the late Betty) Slater; her good friends, Alice Pickett, Carolyn Marlow, and Peggy Reece; and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 7-9 PM on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. A funeral service will take place at 11:30 AM on Saturday, April 12, 2025, in the Gentry Family Chapel, officiated by Rev. Jimmy Lancaster.
