Rufus Ralph Gilbert, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026 at the age of 87.
Rufus was born on August 13, 1938 in Big Springs, Texas to Jesse and Clairsey (Granny) Gilbert. He lived a life defined by kindness, integrity, hard work, generosity and devotion to his faith and family.
Rufus took great pride in his family and found his greatest joy in time spent with those he loved. Rufus provided accounting services to countless businesses, friends, and family. He earned a degree in Ministry and loved any opportunity to spread the word of God. He was known for his sense of humor, generosity, quiet strength, trumpet playing and the many tales of his career and younger days. He leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever.
Rufus is survived by his sons David Gilbert (Lisa), Gregg Gilbert (Stacey) and daughter Teresa Antonis (Anthony). Grandchildren, Robert, David (Jessica), Phoebe, Elli, Tristan (Ashley), Kosta and Nicholas. Great-grandchildren Makenna, Kaitlin, Robert and Grace.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at 1pm at Moore Memorial Gardens, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, Texas. 76012.
Rufus’ family would like to thank the staff at Decatur Medical Lodge for their care and assistance over the past few months.
Rufus Ralph Gilbert will be remembered for the love he gave, the values he lived by, and the legacy he leaves behind in the hearts of his family.
