Russel Halbrook Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jan. 24, 2025.
Russel L. Halbrook, 97, passed away on January 23, 2025. Born on July 22, 1927, in Litchfield, Illinois, to Connie and Thelma Halbrook, Russel lived a full and vibrant life dedicated to family, service, and adventure. A proud Navy veteran of World War II, Russel served his country with honor and distinction. His deep sense of duty led him to re-enlist after the war, serving in the Navy for over seven years. He carried his pride as a veteran throughout his life, embodying the values of courage, commitment, and resilience. Russel was a devoted husband to Carole and cherished his family above all else. He was the loving father of Gregory (Bernadette) Halbrook, Ross (Heidi Fletcher) Halbrook, Todd (Kathy) Person, Kimberly (Mark Kraatz) Rogerson, and the late Barbara Swope. He took immense pride in being a grandfather to Daniel, Shayna, Joshua, Michael, Carolyn, and Lucas, and a doting great-grandfather to little Blakely. Russel's zest for life was evident in his many hobbies and passions. An avid bowler, hunter, skier and roller skater, he embraced every opportunity for adventure. Remarkably, he roller-danced well into his 90s, a testament to his lively spirit and determination to live life to the fullest. Russel was a dedicated season ticket holder at the Fisher Theatre in Detroit, Michigan, for an impressive 35 years, reflecting his love for the performing arts. He was also a proud member of the Elks Club and a skilled pilot, flying his own plane and continuing to seek new horizons. Russel's kindness, humor, and enthusiasm for life will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him. His legacy of love, service, and joy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. A celebration of Russel's life will be held at a later date.
