Russell W. Hocking, 94, passed away on January 10, 2024 at Wynn Hospital in Utica with his loving family at his side. He was born on March 8, 1929 in Frankfort, N.Y. to the late William and Fannie Washburn Hocking and was a 1948 graduate of West Winfield High School.
On January 1, 1954 Russell and the former June Dunham were united in marriage in the Ilion Methodist Church.
He retired in 1991 as Warehouseman for Alling and Cory after 28 years of dedicated service. Russell then took employment with Stonebridge Country Club and worked there until the age of 89.
He and June enjoyed their winters in Florida and summers on the St. Lawrence River where he would spend hours sitting by the water keeping track of the ships as they sailed by.
Russell was a member of A.A.R.P. and the National Campers and Hikers Association.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, June, his daughter and son in law; Joanne and Thomas Lidano, his sons and daughters in law; Donald and Lora Hocking, Ronald and Patty Hocking and Thomas and Lynn Hocking, 8 grandchildren; Patti and Anthony Monta, Amy Hocking and Tom Roepnack, Josh Hocking, Beckie Hocking, Jonathan and Kayla James, Ryan and Brittany Hocking, Amanda Hocking and Matt Coria and Adam Hocking and Shawna Recore, 5 great-grandchildren; Hart Jordan, Riley Hanna, Tyler Hocking, Rochelle Bordley and Lincoln Hocking, his brother and sister in law; James and Sandy Hocking and several nieces and nephews.
Russell was predeceased by his infant son, John Hocking, his grandson, Christopher Hocking and his sisters and brothers in law, Laura Kemp, Doris and Dawes Dunham, Frances and Hutch Lepine and Mary and Ralph Wilson.
Calling hours will be Friday, January 19 from 4-6 at the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St. Sauquoit with services immediately following at 6:00.
Spring interment will be in Sauquoit Valley Cemetery.
Pleased consider donations in Russell's memory to the Cassville Baptist Church-9559 Summit Rd., Cassville, NY 13318. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
His family would like to thank the staff on the 5th Floor East at Wynn Hospital for the compassionate care he received during his stay there, with special thanks to Dr. Javeria Shabbir, F.N.P. Lori as well as Ryan, Michael, Naida, Iryna and Jessica.
