Russell D. LaFollette, age 61, of Pittsford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at his home after a courageous five-year battle with cancer. He was born November 27, 1961, in Hillsdale to Donald and Bessie "Betty" (Hepker) LaFollette. Russ married Paula Newman on August 15, 1987, and she survives.
Russ was a member of the Pittsford FFA and he graduated from Pittsford High School in 1980. He attended Michigan State University and later graduated with a bachelor's degree in agribusiness from Western Michigan University. Russ was employed as a loan officer and manager for Rural Development, later becoming Farm Loan Management. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed deer and turkey hunting. Russ was a member of the Addison Gun Club, Pittsford Lions Club, Hudson American Legion, and former member of the Hillsdale Moose Lodge. He also enjoyed traveling, cooking, and hosting hog roasts for this friends and family whom he dearly loved.
In addition to his wife, Paula LaFollette, Russ is survived by three sons, Donny (Noell) LaFollette of Leland, North Carolina, Jimmy (Bailey) LaFollette of Kalamazoo, and Victor (Sabrina) Leonardo Nino of Venezuela; three grandchildren, Kalen LaFollette, Sebastian Nino, and Alessia Nino; two sisters, Teresa (Philip Dingman) Reed of Pittsford, and Diane (Gary) Rowe of Pittsford; and one sister-in-law, Cindy LaFollette of Hillsdale.
Russ was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dave LaFollette.
Funeral services for Russell LaFollette will be held Friday, March 17, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Fred Slagle officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Private family interment will take place at a later date at Churches Corners Cemetery in Wheatland Township.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Addison Gun Club or Hospice of Hillsdale County.
