Russell W. "Russ" Mierta, age 67, of Marysville, went to see his Savior peacefully on Friday, January 5, 2024, at the Bluebird Retirement Community following years of bravely battling with cancer.
On September 27, 1956, Russ was born in Flint, Michigan, the youngest of three sons of the late Matthew Michael Mierta Sr. and Rosa Delores (Auten) Mierta. He graduated from Flint Northern High School in the class of 1974. He furthered his education, first at a Mott Community College, and then he graduated from Cedarville University in 1981 with a Bachelor's degree in business administration and a minor in computer science.
Russell married his former spouse, Amelia "Amy" Steiger, on October 26, 1985. They shared over thirty years of marriage, and raised five wonderful children: Elizabeth, Timothy, David, Sarah, and Rebekah. As a family, they moved to the Marysville area in 2000.
In addition to his computer programmer career, Russ was also a professional photographer in his early years, and he traveled the United States extensively for a couple years as part of his photography work. Russ moved to Ohio for a better job opportunity in 1992, and has lived in Ohio ever since. For most of his career, he was a self-employed consultant, who worked with Mac Tools, Shelley Materials, Cardinal Health, and various other companies in Columbus over the years, the last of which was Express Fashion.
Russ accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at the age of 7 and has continued in his faith ever since. Russ was a member of Heartland Baptist Church in Marysville and enjoyed watching services online after his health no longer allowed him to attend in person.
Throughout his life, Russ has been a big sports fan. He enjoyed watching football and basketball, and rooting all of his Michigan teams, especially the University of Michigan. Most of all though, he loved playing basketball. He played in pick up basketball games well into his 60's, often playing against guys half his age. He also enjoyed giving DIY projects his best shot, doing many home improvement projects.
Russ had a dry and witty sense of humor. He especially loved to get a good laugh from his "Dad jokes".
A proud father and grandfather, Russ loved his children and grandchildren with all of his heart. He cherished spending time with his beloved family.
He will be missed by his five children: Elizabeth (Pastor Andrew) Lee of Pewaukee, WI, Timothy (Samantha) Mierta of Marysville, David Mierta of Marysville, Sarah (Stephen) Pate of Simpsonville, SC, and Rebekah (Matthew) Denner of Simpsonville, SC; 15 grandchildren: Joshua, Caleb, Ethan and Olivia Lee, Anna, Timothy, Samuel, and Greyson Mierta, Caroline, Evelyn, Elliot, and soon-to-be-born baby girl Pate, and Matthew, Michael and Madelyn Denner; two brothers: Matthew Michael Mierta Jr. of Kenosha, WI, and Thomas Leonard Mierta of Davison, MI; numerous nieces and nephews ; and his former spouse, Amy Mierta Weaver.
In addition to his parents, Russ was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law: Susan and Emma Mierta.
His family will greet friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the Ingram Funeral Home, 975 N. Maple St., Marysville. Services honoring his life will follow there at 11:00 AM, with his son-in-law, Pastor Andrew Lee, and Pastor Robert Condict officiating. Burial will follow in Watkins Cemetery in Marysville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Baptist Church and they may be sent to the funeral home.

I was thinking of Russ this week. We talked about His faith in Jesus before he passed. He prayed for me over one of my concerns. I know he often expressed his love for his kids and grandkids. He was a good friend to me. Truly a blessing God gave to me. Be wonderful to see him on the other side some day. Till then brother!

Russ was absolutely amazing. I remember him picking me up for Basketball when I was 15 16 years old and teaching me so many amazing things he was a great man a good man.

Russ and I played basketball for many years ...we played together and against one another.. We met at Cedarvilke college when we both transfered as juniors into the business program. Russ's dry wit made me laugh many a day. He is a good brother and my family loved Russ when he lived with us for a time immediately proceeding and during his early photography career. He would stop while on the road. My 94 YO Mom said today he was a nice young man. And he was. He was faithful to God. I look forward to laughing together again one day with Russ. My sincere condolences to his family. I know he loved you all. Steve Thompson
