Ruth Doylene Amey, age 79, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025. She was born on August 24, 1945, in Jasper, Texas, and was the daughter of Jessie and Dorothy Burdett. She spent most of her life in Houston, where she attended Smiley High School and was a proud native and beloved member of the community. In 1963, she married William Amey. Together, they had two children, Mandy and Billy Amey.
Sis. Amey, as most knew her, lived a life marked by kindness, service, and unwavering love for others. In 1972, she joined Gospel Assembly Church on Airline Drive, which became a cornerstone of her life. It was the beginning of a life-long dedication to the Lord and His people. Her faith was deep and enduring, and she devoted herself wholeheartedly to her church family.
She always found hoy in serving in the church kitchen, feeding people at services, meetings, and special events. Nothing made her happier than preparing food for others - making sure every plate was full, and every heart was welcomed. She also possessed the spiritual gist of exhortation, always encouraging others in the way of Christ and sharing personal testimonies to help others in their walk.
Sis. Amey was hard-working and a perfectionist, which served her well in her professional career. She worked many years in the freight forwarding industry and became the manager at BDP International, an accomplishment that she was always proud of.
Ruth was also known for her quick wit and clever personality. She loved to laugh, joke, and "cut up" with the people she loved. Her humor brought joy into every room she entered and made even ordinary moments unforgettable.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Mandy Pilgrim; her granddaughter, Makena Belnoski; and her siblings: Jessie Griffin, Janelle Gossage, Gloria Stavinoha, Carolyn Cernoch, Beverly Kolonko, and Stanley Voldan. She was preceded in death by her brother, Henrey Voldan, and her son, Billy Amey.
She will be remembered with deep love by her family, church community, and countless others whose lives are touched. Her compassion, joy, and unshakeable faith leave a legacy that will continue to inspire. To send flowers to the family of Ruth, please visit our floral store.
