Mrs. Ruth Roddy Banner, 92, was born in Cabarrus County on January 17, 1930 to the late Daisy Mae and Willie Edward Roddy. She peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home in the afternoon of June 21, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones. She was preceded in death by: her parents, Willie Edward Roddy and Daisy Mae Roddy; her stepmother, Willie Mae Roddy; her husband, Jesse C. Banner, Sr.; her sister, Louetta Bryant; and her brother, Thomas Roddy, Sr.
Mrs. Banner began her education at Shankletown Elementary School, graduated from Logan High School and Barber Scotia College in Concord, NC, and years later, furthered her education, earning a Master of Arts Degree at University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Mrs. Banner was a well-respected teacher at Shankletown Elementary School, W.R. Odell School, and Wolf Meadow Elementary School, where she ended her teaching career after 34 years of service. Upon retiring, she felt it an honor to volunteer in the Wheels-on Meals Ministry.
Her church affiliation began at an early age, at Liberty Primitive Baptist Church, where she worked tirelessly during her life span, in many capacities, including member of the Trustee Board, Mother Board, Chairman of the Missionary Board, and Sunday School and Vacation Bible School Teacher.
Mrs. Banner leaves to cherish fond memories: two children, Jesse Clyde Banner, Jr., and Ann Banner Monroe of Charlotte NC; three grandchildren, Andrea Monroe of Charlotte, Adrian Monroe (Chris) of Concord, and Tenia Kelly of Charlotte, NC; one beloved great grandson, Cameron Wright of Charlotte, NC; one brother, Edward Roddy of Lancaster, SC; two sisters, Betty Hemphill of Charlotte, NC, and Willene Ramseur (Frank) of Beaverton, OR; her sister-in-law, Dorothy B. Thompson; and devoted friend, Margaret Lunn. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She will be missed by all.
There will be a private memorial service held by the family. Please send flowers to Lamb Funeral Home Inc. located at 302 Broad Drive in Concord. Lamb Funeral Home Inc. will be serving the family.
