Ruth Colwell

Ruth Mary (Wiercinski) Colwell, 93, of Apalachin, passed away surrounded by her loving family on February 13, 2023. She was born on July 4, 1929 in Little Meadows, PA. Ruth was predeceased by her former husband, Joseph Wiercinski, her loving husband Edwin Colwell, her parents, five brothers and one sister. Ruth is survived by her children, Michael (Leslie) Wiercinski of Brookeville, MD, Mary Anne (Bruce) Berkley of Camp Hill, PA, John (Beth) Wiercinski of Springboro OH, Thomas (Margie) Wiercinski of The Woodlands TX, Gerald Wiercinski of Indianapolis, IN, Mark Wiercinski of Apalachin NY, Maureen (Mark) Rothwell of Binghamton NY, Richard (Deceased) (Carol) Colwell of Nichols, NY, Jeanette (John) Overpeck of Canton, PA, and Cynthia (Warren) Dittfield of Salisbury, MD, her sister Madeline Barno, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ruth retired from SUNY Binghamton after a number of dedicated years of service. She enjoyed her retirement spending time with family and friends and was an avid baseball fan. She was a life-long member of St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Parish in Apalachin. The family would like to thank the staff of Vestal Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for their thoughtful and kind care during Ruth's illness.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday at Our Lady of Sorrows church at 11:00 AM (801 Main St. Vestal, NY). Visitation will take place Friday prior to mass beginning at 10:00 AM. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Ruth may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 4550 Montgomery Avenue, Suite 1100N, Bethesda, MD 20814, the Apalachin Fire Department Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 572, Apalachin, NY 13732, or to a charity of your choice.
