Ruth Ann (Gordon) Govanello, age 76, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully, following a brief illness while in the care of Community Hospice’s Truman House at New Philadelphia.
Born on December 6, 1946, Ruth was a daughter of the late James G. “Sam” Gordon and Donna F. Newton Gordon.
Ruth was a 1964 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and attended medical technology and assisting classes in the Cleveland area after graduation. She was employed for many years in the medical field as a lab technician, and also worked in pathology, and oncology, and enjoyed working for various doctors throughout her career in the Cuyahoga Valley.
Upon her retirement, She and her husband, Michael Govanello, whom she married in 1974, returned to the Tuscarawas Valley where Ruth worked part-time at Curves for a few years. She enjoyed tending to the flower gardens around her home and caring for her cats. She also looked forward to monthly outings with her high school classmates.
In addition to her husband of nearly 50 years, Ruth is survived by a son, Steve Govanello of Cleveland; a grandson, Michael Govanello, her siblings, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by a sister.
In keeping with her wishes there will be no public visitation or services. The Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia is handling arrangements.
The family requests memorial contributions in Ruth’s name be directed to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.

Many years ago my daughter and I took a road trip around the country to meet ladies I had gotten to know on the iVillage Your Well Being site. We had a couple of rough days on the road that left us questioning our life choices. Then we visited Ruthie and Mike. It was so relaxing and so much fun and we both enjoyed getting to know Ruthie in person so very much. She will be missed.
